Why are we?

The Laboratory is a forum for professionals in which the various processes of the stage arts are tested, made visible, reflected upon, questioned and renewed.

The Laboratory is a refuge for professionals in which new ideas, methods and collaborations are developed without the pressure of an audience, a deadline or financial issues.

The Laboratory is the department for research and development within the performing arts.

The Laboratory is involved in basic research within theatre and stage arts; that is to say experiments and examinations, i.e. regarding new forms, methods and collaborations.

The purpose of The Laboratory is to contribute to the development and continued renewal of the modern stage arts. This is done by increasing the possibilities of developing and exchanging ideas, and by integrating different environments surrounding the performing arts. It is also a goal that the adding attention on process analysis and the collected experiences will contribute to make awareness of methods, choices and priorities a central part of the artistic work.

The focus of The Laboratory is reflection, immersion and expansion of horizons. The focus is not on developing actual performances, however, an experience can of course result in a production at a later time.
