rehearsal matters
2008-2012
Since 2008 the Laboratoriet has interviewed artists from 11 different countries at different stages of their careers, and from a variety of fields ranging from mainstream to avant-garde theatre, performance and dance. The main focus of the interviews is the rehearsal process: strengths, obstacles, solutions. The object is to collect personal experiences as well as wishes for a ‘utopian’ rehearsal process.
The interviews are documented (video, text and/or sound) and will be published partly as a book, and partly as a research pack on our newly designed website:
www.rehearsalmatters.org
The website presents different methodical considerations and views upon the rehearsal process. The aim of the documentation is to create an open, yet personal document of questions, reflections, practical experiences and dreams to act as inspiration or motivation for performance artists of all kinds.

utopia Experiments - start 5. march 2011
From 2011 and onwards the project consists of putting ideas into practice. The Laboratoriet will design three experiments inspired by the interviews and invite directors/choreographers and performers from different countries to participate.
These experiments will plunge into a specific issue based on the interviews; e.g. a recurrent problem, wish or thought. The experiment will map both known and unknown territory; the common problems, their possible solutions and hopefully uncharted roads in utopian areas.
The first experiment "ALL THE PEOPLE IN MY CITY" started in march 2011 and consists of a collaboration between Jean-Francois Peyret (F), David Fischer (D), Deborah Vlaeymans (B), Lisa Marrani (I), and Isabelle Reynaud (D/F).
